Sustainable Use of Natural Resources of the Middle Danube

The aim of this international round-table conference hekd in Kovin (Serbia) on 11 May 2003 – was to highlight the problems of Sustainable Use of Natural Resources of the Middle Danube, especially with regard to the potentials, obligations and possibilities of the local authorities. During the previous years, lot of local communities from Serbia asked the International Scientific Forum “Danube – River of Cooperation” to direct its activities towards the promotion of international cooperation on local level in the Danube region. So, since 2003 this became one of our basic programs. The municipality of Kovin is chosen to host the conference for two reasons: there is a conflict of interest in using natural resources there, as there is a significant fresh-water resource and also coal resource. Many nationalities (23) live together in Kovin and people are seeking international cooperation with municipalities with experience in solving problems of sustainable use of natural resources.
